Austin, TX—On September 4, Travis County Voter Registration will conduct a workshop and swear in eligible citizens as Volunteer Deputy Registrars. Potential volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. The workshop will take place at the main office of the Voter Registrar, Travis County Tax Office, 5501 Airport Boulevard. Call 854-9742 for times and reservations.
“We invite you, along with your group, your neighbors, your co-workers and your friends to join in the movement to register Travis County citizens,” says Voter Registrar Nelda Wells Spears.
“These one-hour workshops introduce volunteers to the mechanics of completing a voter registration application.” The training explains the voter registration process and prepares volunteers to recognize common mistakes so the voter can make corrections on the spot.
By definition, Volunteer Deputy Registrars accept two important responsibilities. First, they distribute and they may assist voters with completing a voter registration application, and provide the applicant with a receipt. Second, they deliver applications to the office of the Voter Registrar within 5 days.
Anyone who would like to volunteer as a Deputy Registrar, but cannot attend the September 4 workshop should go to the Voter Registration Division for instruction, materials and swearing in.
The Voter Registration office is located in the lobby of the Tax Assessor-Collector’s office at 5501 Airport Boulevard. Office hours are 7:30 to 5:30, weekdays. If a satellite location is more convenient, you can make arrangements to receive instruction by calling 854-9706 or 854-9742.
