Austin Area Garden Center, Inc. is looking for Greeters & Docents who enjoy working with adults and children in a beautiful outdoor environment. Presented in partnership with the City of Austin Parks & Recreation Department, the DinoLand Exhibit needs volunteers to greet people and take tickets. Docents will learn about the Hartman Prehistoric Garden and the various dinosaurs in the visiting exhibit. Training is provided.
The exhibit is open September 8 through November 30. Volunteers are asked to donate four to eight hours each week if possible. Shift times can be flexible. See the website for more information: zilkergarden.org.
Austin Convention & Visitor’s Bureau (ACVB) needs volunteers who love to promote the city. They’re looking for volunteers who can work with the public answering questions or providing information about Austin. Volunteers are also needed behind the scenes to tag merchandise or re-stock inventory. The center is open 7 days a week and they prefer someone able to work at least one 4 -hour shift per week. Austin Humane Society (AHS) seeks an Administrative Professional who can work with the public, has exceptional customer service and administrative skills, and has basic computer skills. Act as a community resource by answering questions about animal welfare and providing guidance. Training is provided. An Alteration/Seamstress volunteer is needed at The Austin State School – Volunteer. Do you enjoy sewing? Do you know how to mend or repair garments? The Style Shop at Austin State School has clothing items that need mending and/or minor sewing repairs which include adding buttons on shirts, hemming pants and replacing zippers. All materials and supplies are provided. A sewing machine is also available. Volunteer registration does include a background check. Hours are extremely flexible! Survivor Mentors are needed at Cancer Connection, a growing network of cancer survivors and their family members offering hope and companionship for individuals and families affected by cancer. Visit cancer patients and their family members at hospitals and oncology centers and provide refreshments, information and emotional support. Cancer survivors and those who have cared for someone with cancer are invited to participate in their upcoming volunteer trainings; October 3 & 4, 2008. Center for Child Protection needs more Family Support Specialist to be the smiling faces that greet children as they enter the Center. Play a vital role by interacting with abused children during the forensic interview process. Engage in calm play activities that ensure the children feel safe and relaxed. You will love having tea parties in the play house, leading the children in arts and crafts projects and exploring the volunteer workroom! Beloved Caregivers are sought by South Austin Caregivers – Faith in Action. As South Austin Caregivers celebrates its 20th Anniversary of service to our community, new volunteers are needed to provide reliable transportation for individuals who need help living independently. Help is also needed in fundraising, light handy-person tasks, or offering caring visits to the homebound. Select one or all of the above, however you are qualified to serve. Seniors & Volunteers for Childhood Immunization seeks a Hospital Program Representative. This volunteer will meet and greet mothers of newborns as they enroll in a free reminder postcard program to let them know when their babies’ shots are due. Provide critical information about the importance of fully immunizing babies before age two. Volunteers are asked to serve two hours per week with scheduling determined by your availability day or night, during the week or on weekends.
