ABOUT THE AUTHOR

In today’s world of ever changing technology, keeping up with the newest things available can be hard, especially for seniors who are just becoming computer literate. Less than a year after you buy a “new” computer it is suddenly out of date. Film cameras are becoming less and less common being replaced by the new digital technology. Today, most people print their own or email their pictures to share them with others.
Imagine not having to hassle with taking your roll of film to the local drug store or Wal-Mart. This is what digital cameras have done for society today. They have made it possible to not only view your pictures in a matter of minutes, but to also print them from the comfort of your own home. This benefits seniors who are no longer able to drive to the store to have their film developed.
Now to take that one-step further, it is now possible to buy a single picture frame and to watch all your photos in slide show format. This is made possible by a “Slideshow Picture Frame,” it works like the screen on your digital camera. It reads the information on your memory card and displays the images on the screen, the only difference between this picture frame and your camera is that your camera can actually take pictures. The picture frames come in a variety of sizes and colors. Instead of spending hours making a scrap book or a collage now you simply turn on a machine and all your pictures are displayed.
What makes these picture frames such user friendly machines is that to view your pictures you only have to take the memory card straight from your camera and plug it into either the side or the top of the picture frame. The only downside is that the pictures will be displayed in the exact order that they are on your memory card. If you want to control the sequence of the slideshow or possibly remove some pictures from the slideshow, just plug your card into your computer, open the memory card and rearrange your pictures or move unwanted ones to a new folder.
Now to talk a little about the variety and cost of slideshow picture frames. They come in sizes ranging from 3.5” all the up to 32” screens. The price varies accordingly from $19.49 to $749.99. Though most screens are 7”-10” and are the choice of most users, with a price from $70 to $120. If you decide to invest in a slideshow picture frame my advice would be to stick to a well known brand such as Kodak, Sony or Philips.
By investing in a slideshow picture frame seniors with a digital camera can alleviate the pain of printing and organizing hundreds of pictures. And, with an investment in a scanner, seniors can consolidate all those pictures from over the years and view them on their slideshow picture frame. Not only can you consolidate those pictures but with today’s technology, you can also clean up and add more color to older pictures.
My family got my Granddad and Grandma a slideshow picture frame last year for Christmas and they love it. Every time I go to their house, which is pretty often, they always have a new assortment of pictures running across the screen. My Grandma can’t stop taking pictures, no matter where they go she takes enough pictures that it is like you’re in her shoes. Though she still makes scrapbooks, they use the heck out of their picture frame too. I feel like they have gotten more than our money’s worth out of their picture frame and would recommend one to anybody.
With the holidays just around the corner, if you think you might be interested in a slideshow picture frame, you should definitely add it to your wish list. Though if you can’t wait that long you can find them on amazon.com and ebay.com, or at your local Wal-Mart in the electronics or at Best Buy.
